Yep, this one’s just as good as the previous one, though the first – Fall Of Giants– is still my favourite. We’re now dealing with the grandchildren and great grandchildren of the characters we met in Fall of Giants, and Follett deftly guides us through the freedom rides, the Cold War, the Cuban missile crisis, two Kennedy assassination and that of Martin Luther King, plus the evils of the Stasi and the KGB and the fall of the Berlin Wall. There’s a lot of guitar strumming and bed hopping along the way but don’t worry, it’s all leading somewhere worthwhile. It’s ok to feel a little exhausted at the end, and a little teary. This book, published in 2014, concludes with the inauguration of President Barack Obama. Read it, and try not to think about what happened next.
