The House on Half Moon Street by Alex Reeve

July 13, 2018 By Kim Kingston

Really quite good. Leo Stanhope is a coroner’s assistant in Victorian London. He is also a woman dressed as a man and in love with Maria, a prostitute. When Maria turns up dead he is determined to find her killer even though that puts him in contact with a bunch of lowlifes who repeatedly cause him physical harm. There’s a bit too much toing and froing near the end of the novel, but for the most part it’s quite intriguing and made much more interesting by Leo’s secret and the reaction of others to it. A good read.
