Another winner from Follett.
Number two in the Century trilogy lays bare some of the horrors of World War Two from the next generation of the families we met in Fall of Giants.
You may, like me, get occasionally confused by the multi generational, multinational families and their relationships with one another but it’s worth persevering.
Some parts of this book, such as the bombing of pearl Harbour and the horrors of the brutal Russian occupation of Berlin, are portrayed more effectively than in any history lesson and will stay with you forever.
A minor quibble – all Follett’s heroines are devastatingly beautiful and his heroes dashingly handsome – are none of them at all ordinary?? But really all is forgiven in as he produces such a thumping good read. 4 stars.
