A Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena

March 27, 2018 By Kim Kingston

A woman wakes up in hospital after having a car crash in a bad part of town and she can’t remember the hell what she was doing there. Soon afterwards a body is found close to the scene of the accident, with her gloves nearby. Amnesia is such a handy literary device, and used to good effect here. Though there’s some baffling holes in the plot, it will keep you reading. Not quite as good Lapena’s previous book, The Couple Next Door, but a cut above most thrillers. Satisfying schlock.
