BA Paris tends to specialise in characters who are not terribly likeable or well drawn – but then you don’t read it for the characters, you read it for the satisfyingly twists. And this one delivers. Finn is caught between two sisters: one who disappeared twelve years ago in France and her sister, to whom he is, somewhat weirdly, engaged. When the missing one apparently starts contacting Finn, questions about whom he really loves begin to plague him, and the desire to meet the missing sister becomes all consuming. At one point you may wish to throw the book across the room – if she wants to see if he still loves her, why doesn’t she just knock on the freakin’ door instead of sending emails and leaving a trail of Russian dolls?? But persevere. It’s a pretty good ride with a worthwhile ending.
