Yes the author is Lianne Moriarty’s sister and you may think this will plug a gaping hole in your life between Liane’s last book and her next one but unfortunately, you will be disappointed. The Fifth Letter is workaday chick lit with a tight plot but very little depth. The chopping back and forth in time quickly becomes irritating and the dialogue smacks of trying too hard. Why write anonymous letters to your friends anyway, especially when there’s only four of you and a quick process of elimination will reveal who you are? Nothing wrong with good old fashioned talking. It’s an irritating premise for an average book, but her next one may hopefully be better.
