White Bodies by Jane Robbins

April 5, 2018 By Kim Kingston

Spending time with the protagonist in this novel – Callie- is a fairly uncomfortable experience. As a child Callie used to eat her sister’s teeth and hair. As an adult she eats her lipsticks. It goes without saying that Callie is rather unhealthily obsessed with her sister and when her sister meets Felix, Callie becomes convinced he is violent and controlling, abusing and dominating her sister. But is that right, or is Callie being manipulated? Hard to get truly comfortable in a novel where you consistently want to shake the protagonist and tell her to get a life, but that aside, it has some passable twists.
